New to Northumbria University? Come and Meet Us at Freshers' Fair
Starting university is an exciting time, but it can also bring new challenges. Increased reading, longer periods of screen use and adapting to a new learning environment can make visual discomfort more noticeable for some students.
Could Visual Stress be affecting your studies?
Some people experience Visual Stress, a sensitivity to bright light, flicker and repetitive patterns, such as text. This can make screen time and reading tiring or more difficult than it needs to be.
Sound Familiar?
• Letters may appear blurred, distorted, or crowded.
• Eye strain, headaches, or migraines, especially after extended periods of reading or screen use.
• Difficulty tolerating bright lights, glare, or artificial lighting.
• Feeling unusually tired after visually demanding tasks.
• Difficulty maintaining focus on text or tasks that require prolonged visual effort.
